Star Ruby
Star Ruby
Star Ruby is a rare and striking variety of ruby that displays a natural star effect (asterism) across a rich red to purplish-red body color. When viewed under a single light source, a luminous star—typically with six rays—appears to move smoothly across the surface of the gemstone.
As a member of the corundum family, star ruby has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, making it exceptionally durable for fine jewelry. These gemstones are cut as cabochons to reveal the star and are highly prized for rings, pendants, and collector pieces.
This category features carefully selected star rubies chosen for deep red color, strong star definition, symmetry, and natural beauty.

About Star Ruby Gemstones
The star effect in ruby is caused by aligned microscopic rutile needle inclusions within the crystal. When the stone is correctly oriented and cut with a high dome, light reflects to form a distinct star pattern on the surface.
Star rubies are primarily sourced from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, Vietnam, Madagascar, and India. Some stones may be heat-treated, but excessive heat can reduce or remove the star effect, so proper treatment disclosure is essential.
The finest star rubies exhibit a well-centered star, strong contrast, good translucency, and rich red color.
