Star Blue Sapphire
Star Blue Sapphire
Star Blue Sapphire is a captivating variety of sapphire that displays a natural star effect (asterism) across a rich blue body color. When viewed under a single light source, a luminous star—typically with six rays—appears to glide across the surface of the gemstone.
As a member of the corundum family, star blue sapphire has a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale, offering excellent durability for everyday fine jewelry. These gemstones are traditionally cut as cabochons to maximize the star effect and are highly valued for rings, pendants, and collector pieces.
This category features carefully selected star blue sapphires chosen for strong blue color, sharp star definition, symmetry, and natural beauty.

Star Blue Sapphire
A celestial star in deep blue sapphire.
About Star Blue Sapphire Gemstones
The star effect in blue sapphire is caused by fine, needle-like inclusions of rutile aligned within the crystal structure. When the stone is cut correctly with a high dome and oriented precisely, light reflects to form a distinct star pattern on the surface.
Star blue sapphires are found in notable deposits in Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar, Madagascar, Thailand, and India. Some stones may be heat-treated, but excessive heating can weaken or remove the star effect, making treatment disclosure essential.
The most valuable star blue sapphires show a well-centered star, strong contrast, and even blue coloration.
