Kornerupine 柱晶石

Kornerupine is a rare boro-silicate mineral with the formula (Mg, Fe²⁺)₄(Al, Fe³⁺)₆(SiO₄, BO₄)₅(O, OH)₂. It has a specific gravity of 3.3 to 3.34 and Colours such as Colorless, white, grey, greenish, bluish, brown, black. Some Stones show strong Pleochroism such as colorless to green, colorless, pale brownish yellow, pale yellowish green, pale brownish green and green.
The stone was named for the outstanding Danish mineralogist Andreas Kornerup.
It crystallizes in the orthorhombic crystal structure with 6 – 7 hardness according to Mohs hardness scale.
Also, This Biaxial (-) gemstone is found as Transparent to translucent and opaque. Deposits are found in Burma (Myanmar), Canada (Quebec), Kenya, Madagascar, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and South Africa.
Kornerupine also has cats eye effect and Star Effect. but, Star Effect kornarupines are very rare. Star kornerupine also has been found Myanmar. In Sri lanka is mostly found yellowish brown/brown/greenish Colours of kornerupine.
