In the heart of Sri Lanka’s gem-rich landscape, nestled within the Rakwana village around mining, a small alluvial rough sapphire was uncovered—1.60 carats of pure, unheated potential. While this might seem like a standard find, what followed was nothing short of extraordinary.

At first glance, the rough sapphire bore the classic water-worn shape of alluvial origin. Unheated, naturally blue, and promising in its clarity, this stone caught the eyes of our Danu Group cutters. But any experienced gem cutter knows the challenge: from a rough weighing 1.60 ct, saving even 1 carat after cutting is nearly impossible. Typically, the cutting process reduces weight by at least 30%, often leaving behind a gem under 1 carat. But our mission was different.

With years of experience and steady hands, our master cutter Mr. Janaka accepted the challenge. The goal was not only to preserve as much weight as possible but also to bring out the true inner brilliance of the gem. What followed was a meticulous cutting journey—a dance of precision, patience, and intuition. Every angle was carefully calculated. Every facet was guided with purpose. And the result?

A stunning 1.08 ct oval-cut blue sapphire, measuring 6.8 × 4.7 × 3.5 mm, retaining its full natural charm. Yes, it has a small window, but the beauty and quality are absolutely worthy. Unheated, untreated, and direct from the source—this is a sapphire that tells a story few can match.

At Danu Group, living at the source gives us the unique advantage of selecting and transforming gemstones at the origin itself. We don’t just sell gems—we witness their birth, understand their soul, and guide their evolution from rough to refined. This sapphire is a living testament to what skilled cutting and deep respect for nature can achieve.
From muddy hands to shining hands, this stone has traveled with heart, and it’s ready for its next chapter—with someone who truly appreciates its story.
