We believe we can all make a difference.
Danu Group is a Sri Lanka–based gemstone company built at the source of one of the world’s richest gem-bearing lands. Our work begins not in offices or trading floors, but in mining villages, riverbeds, and cutting rooms — where gemstones are found, shaped, and understood in their natural form.
A gemstone carries more value when its journey is clear.
Sri Lanka has been known as the Island of Gems for centuries. Being born and working within this environment gives us direct access to mining regions such as Ratnapura, Rakwana, Nivithigala, Kalawana, Kahawatta, Pelmadulla, Opanayake, Balangoda, Elahera, Bakamuna, Okkampitiya, Wellawaya, Embilipitiya, Udawalawa, Bibile, Galapaya, Kuruwita, Kataragama, Endana, Meetiyagida, Marapana, Matara, Hatton, Madulla, Passara, Polonnaruwa, Nuwara Eliya, Rambuka, Horana, Kiriella, Heraniyawaka, Hakmama, Kolonna, Deniyaya, Kamburupitiya, and surrounding villages.
Living close to the source means we engage daily with miners, local dealers, cutters, and lapidaries. Stones are not distant commodities to us — they are part of an active, living system. This proximity allows us to understand each gemstone beyond its appearance: its origin, its formation, and its true potential.
At Danu Group, we believe the gemstone industry works best when it remains balanced.
In source areas, mining depends on steady cash flow and trust. Rough stones are often sold quickly to support miners and keep operations alive. Not every stone is meant to be cut immediately, and not every stone is meant for jewelry. Understanding when to sell rough, when to cut, and when to hold is essential to maintaining a healthy system.
We work with patience, experience, and respect — supporting miners while ensuring our clients receive stones with honest histories and responsible handling.
Danu Group operates across multiple stages of the gemstone journey:
Direct sourcing from mining villages Facet-grade rough gemstones Natural unheated gemstones Cutting and polishing coordination Certification through recognized gemological laboratories Custom cutting and recutting projects Selective jewelry concept development B2B supply and curated B2C offerings Each stone is evaluated individually, without shortcuts or assumptions.
We prioritize gemstones with short, traceable journeys. For this reason, we rarely buy from open gem markets where stones often pass through many hands, increasing risk and uncertainty.
Sensitive gemstones — such as Padparadscha and certain yellow sapphires — are sourced only when their mining origin and history are clearly known. This approach protects not only the stone, but also the long-term trust of our clients.
Cutting is not a single method — it is a decision.
We work with multiple cutters, each selected based on the stone’s variety, size, clarity, and purpose. Depending on the material, cutting may prioritize weight, beauty, or a balanced outcome. Traditional techniques and modern precision coexist in our process.
Every stone dictates its own path.
All treatments, enhancements, or lack thereof are disclosed clearly. Certification is standard practice, not an afterthought.
We value long-term reputation over short-term profit and are prepared to walk away from stones that do not meet our standards of stability, authenticity, or clarity of origin.
We understand the realities of international markets. In Europe and other Western regions, cutting and jewelry manufacturing costs are significantly higher, and buyers often require finished or near-finished products.
By operating at the source, Danu Group acts as a bridge — balancing cost efficiency, craftsmanship, and ethical sourcing to support global clients with realistic, workable solutions.
Danu Group also engages in:
Educational and gem-focused visits (limited and curated) Cultural respect for traditional mining practices Long-term sustainability of gem communities Exploration of jewelry and design collaborations We believe gemstones should not only be sold — they should be understood.
Our Commitment
Danu Group is not built on volume or noise. It is built on relationships, consistency, and respect for the earth that gives these stones life
When you work with us, you are not simply purchasing a gemstone. You are connecting to its origin — and becoming part of its journey.
