About Melichrysos Gemstones

Melichrysos is not a separate gemstone species but a historic trade name for yellow zircon, a natural zirconium silicate mineral known for its strong brilliance and fire. Zircon has a hardness of 6–7.5 on the Mohs scale, making it suitable for fine jewelry when set with care.

The yellow to honey-gold coloration may occur naturally or be enhanced through gentle heat treatment, a stable and widely accepted practice in the gem trade. Such treatments should always be disclosed.

Major sources of melichrysos zircon include Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Myanmar, Tanzania, and Madagascar. Stones with rich golden tones are increasingly rare and highly valued.
